For students applying to the USA, the acceptance letter from the university (Form I-20) is only half the battle. The final hurdle is the visa interview at the US Embassy in Islamabad or the Consulate in Karachi. Unlike other countries where documents are assessed behind closed doors, the US process relies almost entirely on a 2-to-3-minute face-to-face interview. Confidence and clarity are your best weapons.

The “Immigrant Intent” Hurdle Under US immigration law (Section 214(b)), every visa applicant is presumed to be an intending immigrant until they prove otherwise. This means the onus is on you to convince the Visa Officer (VO) that you have no intention of staying in the US illegally after your studies. You must clearly articulate your plans to return to Pakistan.

At OZEE Pathfinder, we conduct mock interview sessions to ensure you walk into that embassy with confidence, not fear.

Top Interview Questions and How to Handle Them

  • “Why this specific university?”
    • Bad Answer: “It has a good ranking and a nice campus.”
    • Good Answer: “I chose this university because of its specialized curriculum in Artificial Intelligence. Professor X’s research on machine learning aligns perfectly with my final year project, and this specific coursework isn’t available in Pakistan.”
  • “Who is sponsoring you?”
    • Strategy: Be precise. Know exactly what your father or sponsor does, their annual income, and how many years they have been in business. Fumbling with these details implies the funds might not be genuine.
  • “What are your post-graduation plans?”
    • Strategy: Link your degree to the Pakistani job market. Mention specific companies in Pakistan where you intend to apply, or discuss your role in a family business.
