Meeting the English language requirement is mandatory for your visa application. For years, IELTS was the only player in the game, but recently, the Pearson Test of English (PTE Academic) has surged in popularity among Pakistani students. Which one should you choose?

English proficiency is a mandatory requirement for studying abroad. But which test is easier?

PTE Academic: The Digital Competitor PTE is a 100% computer-based exam. Even the speaking section is recorded via a microphone and graded by an algorithm.

  • Pros: Results are incredibly fast (often within 48 hours). The automated scoring is often perceived as more objective, removing human bias. Many students find it easier to score “Superior English” (20 points for PR) in PTE compared to IELTS.
  • Cons: It requires good typing speed and microphone discipline.

IELTS: The Traditional Gold Standard IELTS involves a face-to-face interview for the speaking section and paper-based options for reading and writing.

  • Pros: If you are more comfortable talking to a real person than a computer screen, IELTS Speaking might feel more natural. It is accepted universally.
  • Cons: Writing scoring can be notoriously strict, making it harder to jump from a 6.5 to an 8.0 band.

Our Recommendation For students targeting Australia, we frequently recommend PTE Academic due to its scoring consistency and quick turnaround. However, the choice ultimately depends on your personal strengths. OZEE Pathfinder offers specialized coaching for both, ensuring you hit your target score regardless of the test you choose.
